Nestled in Arusha City, northern Tanzania, Mount Meru offers one of the most spectacular backdrops imaginable. This picturesque peak, a sister to Africa’s highest summit, Mount Kilimanjaro, dominates Arusha National Park with its massive cliffs. Keeper of myths and legends, this magnificent mountain is a photographer’s dream.

Mount Meru, an active yet dormant volcano, stands north of Arusha City. It is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and the fourth-highest in Africa, rising to 4,562 meters above sea level.

Famed for its proximity to Mount Kilimanjaro, just 70 km away, Mount Meru is popular as a “warm-up” trek for Kilimanjaro climbers. However, its technical climbing demands surpass those of Kilimanjaro.

On the fourth day of trekking, expect to encounter wildlife such as buffalos, antelopes, giraffes, and baboons. You'll pass waterfalls and the unique streams of Meru, with a park ranger accompanying your group for safety.

CLIMBING MT.MERU

Climb the amazing peak of Mount Meru the Fifth highest mountain in Africa, the second mountain in Tanzania after Kilimanjaro. Located in Arusha just 27 km from Arusha Town, at its 4566 m offers spectacular view of Kilimanjaro when the day is clear. You will spot various wild animals on the way. The view of mount meru and the ash tray is amazing,The trail begins at Momella Gate and takes you to explore the plants and animals on the way to Miriakamba Hut 2500m. The second day you will ascend to Saddle Hut to prepare to trek to the Summit at Midnight then back to Miriakamba for overnight before walking back to Momella Gate and driven back to Arusha.
